Heirloom Caprese Salad

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds mixed heirloom tomatoes or the best ripe tomatoes available
  • 8 ounces burrata or mozzarella, preferably fresh or packed in water
  • 1 handful fresh basil leaves
  • 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon flaky sea salt or ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • to taste freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Slice the tomatoes into ¼ inch thick slices and arrange them on a serving platter.
  2. Cut the burrata or mozzarella into ¼ to ½ inch slices and distribute it around the tomatoes.
  3. Sprinkle the basil leaves over the salad and drizzle with olive oil.
  4. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Let the salad rest for 30 minutes to enhance the flavors before serving.
