Mozzarella Sticks

Ingredients

  • 1 pound low-moisture mozzarella
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3 tablespoons whole milk
  • 2 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • teaspoons garlic powder
  • teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • about 6 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
  • to taste kosher salt
  • to serve spicy marinara sauce

Instructions

  1. Cut the mozzarella into 3x½" pieces and set up a dredging station with flour, egg mixture, and panko mixture.
  2. Dredge each piece of mozzarella in flour, dip in the egg mixture, and coat with the panko mixture, pressing to adhere. Repeat for a second coating.
  3. Place the coated mozzarella on a wire rack and freeze for at least 1 hour.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a large pot to 350°F using a deep-fry thermometer.
  5. Fry the mozzarella sticks in batches for 2–2½ minutes until golden brown and crisp.
  6. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate and season with salt. Serve with spicy marinara sauce.
