Ingredients

The cheese sticks

  • 12 sticks part-skim mozzarella string cheese

The coating

  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large egg white
  • cup Italian-seasoned whole wheat breadcrumbs
  • cup whole wheat panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • to taste olive oil cooking spray

For serving

  • to taste marinara sauce or ranch dressing

Instructions

  1. Slice each piece of cheese in half and freeze until solid.
  2. Prepare three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with beaten egg and water, and one with breadcrumbs mixed with Italian seasoning and garlic powder.
  3. Dredge frozen cheese sticks in flour, then dip in egg, and coat with breadcrumbs.
  4. Place the breaded sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 2 hours.
  5. Preheat the oven to 400°F and prepare a baking sheet with aluminum foil and olive oil spray.
  6. Bake the cheese sticks for 6 to 8 minutes until golden and heated through.
  7. Let cool for a few minutes and serve with dipping sauce.
