Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and prepare three 6-inch cake pans.
- Make the vanilla batter by whisking flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda together, then cream the butter and sugar before adding eggs, sour cream, and vanilla.
- Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk to the mixture until just combined.
- Prepare the chocolate batter by mixing cocoa powder, sugar, and milk into half of the vanilla batter.
- Layer the batters into the prepared cake pans and bake for 19-22 minutes.
- Cool the cakes completely before frosting.
- Make the frosting by processing freeze-dried strawberries into a powder and mixing it with butter, confectioners’ sugar, cream, and vanilla.
- Assemble the cake by layering the vanilla frosting between the cake layers and covering the outside with strawberry frosting.
- Decorate with sprinkles and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.
