Ingredients

The cupcakes

  • 1 and ¾ cups cake flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • cup sour cream
  • 2 and ½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup whole milk

The frosting

  • to taste chocolate buttercream
  • to taste sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and line a muffin pan with cupcake liners.
  2. Whisk together the cake flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Beat the butter and sugar until creamy, then add the eggs and vanilla, mixing well.
  4. Incorporate the sour cream, then add the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  5. Slowly pour in the milk and mix until combined, being careful not to over-mix.
  6. Spoon the batter into the liners, filling them about ⅔ full.
  7. Bake for 19-22 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cupcakes to cool completely before frosting with chocolate buttercream and adding sprinkles.
