Simple Vegan Fish Sauce Substitute

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • cup dulse or wakame
  • cup dried shiitake mushrooms
  • 2 tsp sea salt
  • 2 tsp white miso
  • 2 tbsp coconut aminos

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine water, seaweed, dried shiitake mushrooms, and sea salt.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil, then cover and reduce heat to low, simmering for 20 minutes without the lid.
  3. Remove from heat and strain the mixture into a bowl, pressing the mushrooms and seaweed to extract liquid.
  4. Add miso and coconut aminos to the strained liquid, then taste and adjust as needed.
