Ingredients

Dough

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 tablespoon instant or active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • teaspoons salt
  • cups all-purpose flour

Butter Packet

  • 1 cup salted butter

Instructions

  1. Prepare the butter packet by folding parchment paper and placing pieces of butter inside, then flatten it into a thin sheet and chill in the fridge.
  2. In a stand mixer, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit until foamy.
  3. Add salt and flour to the yeast mixture and mix until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough for 3-4 minutes until smooth, then let it rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  5. Roll the dough into a rectangle and place the chilled butter packet in the center.
  6. Fold the dough over the butter, sealing the edges, then roll it out into a longer rectangle.
  7. Fold the dough again and let it rest for a few minutes before rolling it into a square.
  8. Cut the square into strips, twist each strip, and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  9. Cover and let the twisted loaves rise until puffy, then bake in a preheated oven until golden, about 20-22 minutes.
  10. Brush any leaked butter over the top of the warm loaves before serving.
