Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons instant or active dry yeast
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 ¼ teaspoons salt
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted or salted butter
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

Lamination

  • ¾ cup salted butter

Egg Wash

  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough by whisking warm milk, yeast, and sugar in a mixing bowl and let it sit until foamy.
  2. Add salt, butter, and flour, then mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough until it is soft and slightly tacky.
  4. Let the dough rise in a greased bowl until nearly double in size.
  5. Flatten the dough into a rectangle and refrigerate for 20 minutes.
  6. Prepare butter for lamination and line it down the center of the dough.
  7. Fold the dough over the butter and roll it out into a rectangle.
  8. Repeat the lamination process two more times with chilling in between.
  9. Roll the dough into a log and cut it into rolls.
  10. Place rolls in a greased loaf pan and let them rise until puffy.
  11. Preheat the oven and brush the rolls with egg wash.
  12. Bake until golden brown and cool before slicing.
