Ingredients

The dough

  • 1 package Active dry yeast
  • 3 tablespoons warm water
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 5 tablespoons butter pieces
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cups bread flour
  • 1½ - 2 cups all-purpose flour

For brushing

  • as needed none melted butter

Instructions

  1. Combine warm water and yeast in a standing mixer and let it sit for about 5 minutes until dissolved.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine milk, butter pieces, sugar, and salt, then microwave until melted.
  3. Whisk in honey and egg into the milk mixture, ensuring it cools to a warm temperature to prevent curdling.
  4. Combine the milk mixture with the yeast mixture and mix for 2 minutes at medium speed.
  5. Add bread flour and mix, then gradually add all-purpose flour until the dough doesn't stick to the bowl.
  6. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8 to 12 minutes until soft, then place in a greased bowl and let it rise for 1 to 2 hours.
  7. Punch down the dough, knead briefly, then refrigerate covered for 30 minutes.
  8. Shape the dough into balls or place in a greased loaf pan, then let rise again if desired.
  9. Preheat the oven to 350°F and brush the top with melted butter.
  10. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  11. Remove from the pan and let cool before serving.
