Ingredients

Honey Butter

  • ¾ cup butter
  • ¼ cup honey

Dough

  • 2 tablespoons warm water
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 6-8 ounces unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup honey
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1¾-2 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Combine butter and honey for the honey butter mixture and set aside.
  2. Dissolve yeast in warm water and let it sit for about 5 minutes.
  3. In a separate bowl, heat milk with butter and salt until melted, then whisk in egg and honey.
  4. Combine the milk mixture with the yeast mixture.
  5. Add whole wheat flour and all-purpose flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  6. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes, then let it rise in a greased bowl for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  7. Punch down the dough and shape it into rolls or place in a loaf pan.
  8. Brush with honey butter and bake at 350°F for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
