Ingredients

The dough

  • ¼ cup water
  • 3 teaspoons dry yeast
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons powdered milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 ounces butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3¼-3½ cups all-purpose flour

The filling

  • 2 ounces melted butter
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg

The glaze

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • cups powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2-4 tablespoons milk
  • ¼ cup butter, softened
  • 1 pinch salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine water and yeast in a large bowl, stir until dissolved, and let it set for 3-5 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a microwaveable bowl, combine sugar, whole milk, salt, powdered milk, vanilla extract, and butter. Heat until the butter melts but is not hot enough to kill the yeast.
  3. Pour the cooled butter and milk mixture into the yeast mixture, add eggs, and stir well.
  4. Gradually add flour, mixing until the dough is sticky. Knead for a minute or two and let rise covered in a warm place for 1½-2 hours until doubled.
  5. Make the cinnamon sugar mixture by combining sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  6. Punch down the dough and roll it into a 1-inch thick rectangle on a floured surface.
  7. Brush the dough with melted butter, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, and roll it up tightly.
  8. Slice the roll into 12 pieces and place them in a greased baking pan. Let rise for about 45 minutes.
  9. Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Cool for about 5 minutes.
  10. For the glaze, whip cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until creamy. Drizzle over warm rolls before serving.
