Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 cup salted butter
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 tablespoon instant or active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • teaspoons salt
  • cups all-purpose flour

Chocolate Filling

  • ¾ to 1 cup coarsely chopped semisweet or dark chocolate

Instructions

  1. Prepare the butter packet by folding parchment paper and placing butter inside, then chill.
  2. In a stand mixer, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar; let sit until foamy.
  3. Add salt and flour, mixing until a soft dough forms; knead for 3-4 minutes.
  4. Let the dough rise until doubled, about 1 hour, then roll into a rectangle.
  5. Unfold the chilled butter packet and place it in the center of the dough; fold the dough over the butter.
  6. Roll the dough into a long rectangle, then sprinkle 2/3 of the chocolate on top and fold the dough.
  7. Roll into a square and cut into strips, twisting each strip and placing on baking sheets.
  8. Let the twisted strips rise until puffy, then bake at 375°F for 20-22 minutes.
  9. Brush with any melted butter from the baking sheet after baking.
