Pulled Pork Bao Buns

Ingredients

The dough

  • 500 g Plain flour
  • tbsp Caster sugar
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Dried yeast
  • 50 ml Milk
  • 1 tbsp Sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp Rice vinegar
  • 200 ml Water
  • 1 tsp Baking powder

The filling

  • to taste Pulled pork
  • to taste Lettuce
  • to taste Sliced carrot
  • to taste Spring onions

Instructions

  1. Mix the flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl.
  2. Dissolve the yeast in warm water and add it to the flour mixture along with the milk, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and water.
  3. Mix until it forms a dough, adding more water if necessary.
  4. Knead the dough for 10-15 minutes until smooth.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let it rise for about 2 hours until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and flatten it, then sprinkle with baking powder and knead for another 5 minutes.
  7. Roll the dough into a long shape and cut it into 3 cm pieces.
  8. Shape each piece into a ball, let rest for 2-3 minutes, then roll into an oval shape.
  9. Fold each oval over a chopstick and remove the chopstick to shape the bun.
  10. Place the buns on a lined baking tray, cover, and let rise for 1.5 hours.
  11. Steam the buns for about 8 minutes until puffed up.
  12. Fill the buns with pulled pork and your choice of vegetables.
