Pie + Filling

  • 1 unbaked pie crust fitted to a 9-inch pie plate
  • 6 medium-large crisp, tart/sweet apples (cored, peeled, and sliced)
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • teaspoon nutmeg
  • pinch salt

Crumble

  • cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • pinch salt
  • 6 tablespoons salted butter (melted)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and refrigerate the pie crust while preparing the filling and topping.
  2. In a large bowl, combine sliced apples with brown sugar, flour, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt, stirring gently.
  3. In a medium bowl, mix together flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt for the crumble, then drizzle melted butter over and mix until crumbly.
  4. Fill the chilled pie crust with the apple mixture, leaving excess liquid behind, and drizzle a bit of leftover liquid over the apples.
  5. Place the pie on a foil-lined baking sheet and spread the crumble topping evenly over the apples.
  6. Bake for 45-50 minutes, covering loosely with foil if the crust or crumble browns too quickly, until the filling is bubbling and the crust is browned.
  7. Allow the pie to cool to room temperature before serving.
