Ingredients

The potatoes

  • 3 pounds russet potatoes

The liquids

  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup milk
  • ¼ cup heavy whipping cream

The seasonings

  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper

The cheese

  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup grated gouda cheese
  • ½ cup grated Gruyere cheese

The bacon

  • 4-5 slices cooked and crumbled bacon

The aromatics

  • 2-3 cloves garlic

The equipment

  • to taste cooking oil spray
  • 1 piece foil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  2. Spray a 12-inch cast iron skillet or 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking oil spray.
  3. Add the sliced potatoes to the pan or skillet.
  4. Combine milk, broth, heavy cream, onion powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl and drizzle over the potatoes.
  5. Sprinkle minced garlic and add chunks of cream cheese throughout the potatoes.
  6. Sprinkle grated cheese and crumbled bacon on top, then cover with foil.
  7. Bake covered for 60 minutes, then remove foil and bake for an additional 20-30 minutes until the top is browned and potatoes are soft.
  8. Cool before serving.
