Ingredients

The brownie mix

  • 1 box store-bought brownie mix
  • cup chocolate chips or chopped chocolate bar

The pumpkin mixture

  • 4 ounces neufchatel or full fat cream cheese
  • ¾ cup pumpkin puree
  • ¼ cup pure maple syrup
  • teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • to taste flakey sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350℉ and line a 9x9 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the brownie batter according to the package instructions and stir in the chocolate chips.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth, then mix in the pumpkin, maple syrup, pumpkin pie spice, and vanilla.
  4. Spread about ¾ of the brownie batter in the prepared pan.
  5. Layer the pumpkin-cream cheese mixture over the brownie batter and spread it evenly.
  6. Dollop the remaining brownie batter over the pumpkin layer and swirl the batters together with a knife.
  7. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Let cool on a wire rack before cutting into 16 brownies.
