Ingredients

Mixed berry filling

  • 2 pounds mixed berries
  • cup honey or maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons arrowroot starch or cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoon orange or lemon zest
  • 2 tablespoons orange or lemon juice

Gluten-free oat and almond topping

  • 1 cup old-fashioned oats
  • ½ cup almond flour or almond meal
  • ½ cup sliced almonds or chopped pistachios or pecans
  • cup coconut sugar or brown sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon fine salt
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 tablespoons plain yogurt or additional melted butter

For serving

  • to taste vanilla ice cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Rinse and drain the berries, removing any stems, and slice strawberries if using.
  3. In a baking dish, mix the berries with honey, starch, zest, and juice.
  4. In a bowl, combine oats, almond meal, nuts (if using), sugar, and salt, then mix in butter and yogurt until moistened.
  5. Dollop the oat mixture over the berry filling and spread it evenly.
  6. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes until bubbling and golden.
  7. Let rest for 5 to 10 minutes before serving with vanilla ice cream.
