Ingredients

The topping

  • 1 ¼ cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • ¾ cup white whole wheat flour
  • ½ cup sliced almonds
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • cup pure maple syrup

The filling

  • 5 cups mixed berries
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • ½ to 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Optional toppings

  • to taste vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt
  • to taste whipped cream or Greek yogurt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the slow cooker with nonstick spray or a liner.
  2. In a bowl, mix oats, flour, almonds, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. Add melted butter and maple syrup to the dry ingredients and mix well.
  4. If using frozen berries, rinse them to remove ice crystals, then mix with lemon juice, vanilla, and cornstarch.
  5. Transfer the berry mixture to the slow cooker and top with the oat mixture.
  6. Spray the top lightly with nonstick spray.
  7. Cover with a towel and then the lid to absorb moisture and help crisp the top.
  8. Cook on high for 1 to 2 hours or low for 2 to 3 hours until bubbly and browned.
  9. Serve warm with optional toppings.
