Slow Cooker Chicken Broth

Ingredients

The broth base

  • 1 each chicken carcass
  • 1 stalk celery
  • 2 each carrots
  • 1 handful parsley
  • 2 each bay leaves
  • to taste freshly cracked pepper
  • sprinkle dried onion flakes

The liquid

  • 10 cups water

Instructions

  1. Add the chicken carcass, vegetables, and herbs to a large slow cooker.
  2. Fill the slow cooker with water, up to the top.
  3. Cover the slow cooker, turn it on to high, and let it cook for at least six hours.
  4. Remove large pieces with a slotted spoon and check for any remaining meat.
  5. Strain the broth to remove sediment, using a wire mesh strainer or colander lined with cheese cloth.
  6. Salt the broth if desired, or leave it unsalted for later seasoning.
