Collard Greens Broth

Ingredients

  • 1 lb collard greens or turnip greens
  • 1 unit onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 8 pieces crumbled bacon or ham hock or salt pork or plant-based smoked sausage
  • 3 cups chicken stock or broth or veggie broth
  • 1 pinch pepper
  • 1 pinch red pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp oil

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large pot and cook the onions until softened.
  2. Add garlic and cook until fragrant.
  3. Stir in crumbled bacon or ham hock.
  4. Add the greens and coat them with the onion and garlic mixture using tongs.
  5. Pour the stock over the greens, cover, and cook for about 45 minutes until wilted.
  6. Serve the cooked greens and enjoy the broth.
