Ingredients

The greens

  • 1 pound collard greens

The flavorings

  • 6 slices bacon
  • ½ cup onion
  • teaspoons garlic
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • ½ teaspoon hot sauce
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  1. Cook the bacon in a large pot over medium-high heat until crisp, then reserve half for garnish.
  2. Add the onion to the bacon grease and cook until softened.
  3. Stir in the garlic, salt, and pepper, and cook briefly.
  4. Add the collard greens and cook until wilted.
  5. Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a simmer.
  6. Cover and simmer on low for 30-35 minutes until the greens are tender.
  7. Uncover, stir in hot sauce and vinegar, and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  8. Garnish with reserved bacon and serve.
