Ingredients

The greens

  • 1 pound mustard greens

The seasoning and broth

  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon hot sauce
  • ½ teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

The aromatics and bacon

  • 6 slices bacon
  • ½ cup onion
  • teaspoons garlic

Instructions

  1. Cook the bacon in a large pot until crisp, then reserve half for garnish.
  2. Add onion to the bacon grease and cook until softened.
  3. Stir in garlic, salt, and pepper, then cook briefly.
  4. Add the mustard greens and cook until wilted.
  5. Pour in chicken broth and sugar, then bring to a simmer.
  6. Cover and simmer on low heat until the greens are tender.
  7. Stir in hot sauce and vinegar, then cook for a few more minutes.
  8. Garnish with reserved bacon and serve immediately.
