Instructions
- Zest one blood orange and set the zest aside.
- Juice enough blood oranges to make 2 cups of juice.
- In a small saucepan, combine water, zest, lemon juice, and sugar, warming over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
- Combine the sugar mixture with the blood orange juice and add a splash of alcohol if desired.
- Chill the mixture thoroughly, then churn in an ice cream maker until desired consistency is reached.
- Serve immediately for the best texture.
