Instructions
- Decide whether to use xanthan gum or arrowroot powder to thicken the sauce.
- Combine the first five ingredients in a small pot over medium-high heat and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 5 minutes, whisking well.
- If using arrowroot powder, add the slurry and simmer for an additional minute.
- If using xanthan gum, ensure it's mixed with the sweetener to avoid clumping.
- Taste and adjust sweetness if necessary.
- Strain the sauce to remove solids, unless using as a marinade.
- Cool the sauce before using.
