Arrowroot powder (or ½ teaspoon xanthan gum)
Instructions
- Decide whether to use xanthan gum or arrowroot powder for thickening.
- Combine the first five ingredients in a small pot over medium-high heat and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat to medium-low or low and simmer for 5 minutes, whisking well.
- If using arrowroot, add the slurry and simmer for 1 more minute. If using xanthan gum, ensure it is mixed with the sweetener before adding.
- Taste the sauce and adjust sweetness as needed.
- Strain the sauce if desired, or leave it unstrained if using as a marinade.
- Cool the sauce before using.
