Ingredients

The filling

  • 2 cans (20-ounce) unsweetened jackfruit in water, drained
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon cumin powder
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon sweet paprika
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice

For serving

  • 10 pieces taco shells or tortillas
  • 1 medium avocado, sliced
  • cup cilantro leaves
  • 1 medium pickled red onion
  • 1 medium lime, quartered

Instructions

  1. Drain and rinse the jackfruit, then shred it and discard any hard pieces.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet and sauté the onion until soft, then add garlic and cook briefly.
  3. Mix in the spices and add the shredded jackfruit, stirring to coat.
  4. Add barbecue sauce, sriracha, water, and lime juice, then simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Let the mixture cool slightly, then serve in taco shells with toppings.
