Ingredients

The cocktail

  • 1 piece orange peel (3-inch long)
  • ½ ounce ginger juice
  • 1 Tbsp maple syrup
  • ounces lemon juice
  • 2 dashes bitters
  • 2 ounces bourbon whiskey
  • Ice for shaking

For serving

  • 3-4 large ice cubes
  • 1 dash sparkling water or champagne (optional)
  • 1 sprig fresh mint (optional)
  • fresh fruit (optional, such as cranberries, lemon or orange wedges, pomegranate, or raspberries)

Instructions

  1. Run the orange peel around the rim of your serving glass and add it to a small pitcher or cocktail shaker.
  2. Muddle the orange peel with ginger juice, maple syrup, lemon juice, and bitters for about 1 minute.
  3. Add bourbon and ice, then stir or shake vigorously for about 30 seconds.
  4. Pour the mixture over 3-4 ice cubes in the serving glass.
  5. Top with a dash of sparkling water or champagne if desired.
  6. Garnish with fresh mint and cranberries if desired.
