Ingredients

The batter

  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • teaspoon pepper
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 cup buttermilk

The corn dogs

  • 10 hot dogs
  • 10 popsicle or craft sticks
  • as needed neutral flavored oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Combine the dry ingredients for the batter in a bowl.
  2. Add the wet ingredients to the bowl and stir until just combined.
  3. Chill the batter for at least 10 minutes.
  4. Heat oil in a deep pot to 350 degrees F.
  5. Insert sticks into the hot dogs and pat them dry.
  6. Pour the batter into a tall glass and dip each hot dog until fully coated.
  7. Fry the coated hot dogs for 3-4 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Drain on paper towels and serve.
