Ingredients

The Corn Dogs

  • 8 pieces hot dogs or sausage

The Batter

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup cornmeal
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon white pepper (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • 2 pieces eggs
  • ¼ cup cornstarch or flour for dusting

Instructions

  1. Mix all the dry ingredients in a medium bowl.
  2. Whisk the eggs and buttermilk together and add to the dry ingredients, mixing until combined.
  3. Cut the hot dogs in half and dry them with a paper towel.
  4. Transfer the batter into a tall glass for easy dipping.
  5. Preheat oil in a deep saucepan to 350°F.
  6. Roll each hot dog in cornstarch, then dip in the batter until well coated.
  7. Fry 3-4 corn dogs at a time until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.
  8. Drain the fried corn dogs on paper towels.
