Ingredients

The Chicken Nuggets

  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts cut into 1-inch chunks
  • 1 cup dill pickle juice
  • 1 ½ cups milk, divided
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour or gluten-free all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar or Swerve Confectioners'
  • to taste kosher salt
  • to taste freshly ground black pepper

The Chick-Fil-A Sauce

  • ¼ cup honey
  • ¼ cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • ½ cup mayonnaise

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the sauce ingredients and chill in the refrigerator.
  2. In a large bowl, combine chicken pieces, pickle juice, and ½ cup milk. Marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. After marinating, drain the chicken well.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the remaining milk and egg to create an egg wash.
  5. Add the marinated chicken to the egg wash and stir to combine, then drain excess mixture.
  6. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F.
  7. In a gallon-sized bag, combine flour, confectioners' sugar, salt, and pepper.
  8. Add the chicken to the bag, seal, and shake to coat the chicken pieces in the flour mixture.
  9. Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray and place the chicken nuggets in a single layer.
  10. Lightly spray the nuggets with cooking spray and cook for 7 to 8 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  11. Transfer cooked nuggets to a container and repeat until all are cooked.
  12. Serve warm with the prepared sauce.
