Ingredients

The biscuits

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 4 ounces cold cream cheese
  • ½ cup cold unsalted butter
  • 1 ¼ cups cold buttermilk
  • cup fresh or frozen blueberries

The vanilla butter

  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste
  • ¼ teaspoon fine sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add cream cheese and butter, mixing until coarse crumbs form.
  4. Make a well in the center and pour in buttermilk, stirring until just combined.
  5. Gently fold in blueberries without smashing them.
  6. Pat the dough into a circle about 1 ½ inches thick.
  7. Use a biscuit cutter to cut out rounds and place them on a baking sheet.
  8. Bring the extra dough together and cut more biscuits until all dough is used.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden and puffed.
  10. Let cool slightly before serving.
  11. For the vanilla butter, mix butter, vanilla bean paste, and salt until combined.
  12. Serve the butter on warm biscuits.
