Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, mix the dry ingredients together.
- Grate the butter into the flour mixture and place the bowl in the freezer for 5-7 minutes.
- In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and egg, then chill in the refrigerator.
- Make the egg wash by whisking together the egg and milk, and refrigerate.
- Remove the flour mixture from the freezer and gently mix in the butter until it resembles small peas.
- Add the buttermilk mixture to the flour and mix until just combined.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and press it to a ¾-inch thickness.
- Cut out biscuits using a biscuit cutter and place them on the baking sheet.
- If necessary, chill the baking sheet in the freezer for 5 minutes.
- Brush the tops with egg wash and bake for 10-15 minutes until golden brown.
- Serve warm with butter and jam.
