Instructions
- 1. Preheat the oven to 450°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- 2. In a food processor, pulse the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, butter, and shortening until the mixture resembles coarse meal.
- 3. Transfer the mixture to a large bowl and stir in the buttermilk until combined.
- 4. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead until smooth, about 8 to 10 times.
- 5. Pat the dough into a 9-inch circle, about ¾ inch thick.
- 6. Use a 3-inch biscuit cutter to cut out rounds of dough and arrange them on the prepared baking sheet.
- 7. Gather the remaining dough, pat it into a circle, and cut out more biscuits until you have a total of 8.
- 8. Bake for about 5 minutes, then rotate the pan and reduce the oven temperature to 400°F.
- 9. Continue baking until golden brown, about 12 to 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool.
