Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400ºF.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
- Cut the butter into the flour mixture until it forms small bits and flakes.
- Pour buttermilk into the flour mixture and stir until the dough comes together.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and pat it into a ¾-inch thick circle.
- Cut the dough into eight biscuits using a round cutter.
- Transfer the biscuits to a baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.
- Brush each biscuit with buttermilk and sprinkle sugar on top.
- Increase the oven temperature to 425ºF and bake for 15 to 20 minutes until golden.
- Remove from the oven and cool on a wire rack or serve immediately.
