Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • tablespoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1½-2 tablespoons sugar
  • teaspoons salt
  • ¾ cup butter
  • cups buttermilk

Instructions

  1. 1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt.
  2. 2. Grate the chilled butter into the flour mixture or cut it into cubes and mix until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. 3. Make a well in the center and add the buttermilk, stirring until a rough dough forms. Do not over mix.
  4. 4. Let the dough rest in the fridge for about 10 minutes.
  5. 5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently a few times.
  6. 6. Roll or pat the dough to about ½ inch thick and fold it several times to create layers.
  7. 7. Press the dough down to 1 inch thick and cut out biscuits using a cookie cutter.
  8. 8. Place the biscuits on a baking sheet and brush with cream.
  9. 9. Bake at 400°F for 12-15 minutes until lightly browned.
