Ingredients

  • ½ teaspoon Szechuan Peppercorns
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Chinese cooking wine
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 2 teaspoons fresh ginger
  • 1 tablespoon chili garlic sauce
  • ½ teaspoon Chinese Five Spice
  • 2-3 teaspoons cornstarch (optional)

Instructions

  1. Toast Szechuan peppercorns in a dry skillet over medium heat until fragrant, then crush them.
  2. Combine all ingredients in a bowl or jar and whisk until well mixed.
  3. For stir-fry, add cornstarch if desired and mix well before adding to the dish.
  4. For marinade, skip the cornstarch and season the meat or tofu with salt.
  5. For dipping sauce, heat in a saucepan and add cornstarch to thicken, simmer for 1 minute.
