Ingredients

Scone Dough

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • cup light brown sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup cold unsalted butter, cut into pieces
  • cup white chocolate chips
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup canned pure pumpkin
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon cream
  • to taste none Turbinado sugar for sprinkling

Spice Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • teaspoon cloves
  • to taste none nutmeg
  • as needed none milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, spices, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs, then stir in the white chocolate chips.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix the buttermilk, pumpkin, and vanilla, then combine with the dry ingredients until just mixed.
  5. Transfer the dough to a floured surface, knead gently, and shape into a 7-inch round about 1½ inches thick.
  6. Cut the dough into wedges and place them on the baking sheet, brushing the tops with cream and sprinkling with sugar.
  7. Bake for about 20 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Cool on a wire rack and drizzle with the spice glaze made from powdered sugar, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and milk.
