Ingredients

The scones

  • 3 ½ cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
  • ½ teaspoon coarse salt
  • 6 tablespoons cold butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¾ cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips

The glaze and topping

  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
  • ¼ cup pepitas

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a stand mixer, whisk together flour, baking powder, pumpkin pie spice, and salt.
  3. Add cold butter cubes and mix on low until the mixture resembles pea-sized rounds.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, brown sugar, pumpkin puree, and vanilla extract.
  5. Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry mixture until a wet dough forms, then mix in the chocolate chips briefly.
  6. Transfer the dough to a floured surface, form into a ball, and divide into two balls.
  7. Flatten each ball into a round about 1 inch thick, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  8. Cut each round into 8 mini triangles and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Bake for 13-16 minutes until lightly browned and fluffy, then cool.
  10. For the glaze, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and maple syrup until smooth.
  11. Drizzle the glaze over each scone and sprinkle with crushed pepitas.
