Ingredients

The pudding

  • 4 cups stale bread cut into 1-inch pieces
  • ½ cup chocolate chips
  • 4 units eggs
  • 1 pinch salt
  • ¼ cup butter melted
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 cups hot milk
  • ½ tsp nutmeg

Garnish (optional)

  • to taste whipped cream
  • to taste fresh berries

Instructions

  1. 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. 2. Place the bread in a buttered 8 x 10 inch baking dish or individual ramequins.
  3. 3. Add the chocolate chips on top of the bread.
  4. 4. Whisk the eggs, then add salt, melted butter, sugar, and vanilla.
  5. 5. Gradually add warm milk to the egg mixture to avoid cooking the eggs.
  6. 6. Pour the egg mixture over the bread and sprinkle with nutmeg.
  7. 7. Bake until the center is set, about 45 to 60 minutes.
