Spicy Italian Meatballs in Red Sauce

Ingredients

The meatballs

  • ½ cup finely chopped Yellow Onion
  • 1 slice White Bread (crusts removed)
  • 6 oz. Ground Beef
  • 6 oz. Spicy Italian Sausage
  • 1 large Egg
  • cup Panko Bread Crumbs
  • 1 tsp. Italian Seasoning
  • ¼ tsp. Crushed Red Pepper
  • Salt & Pepper
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 2 tbsp. finely chopped Parsley
  • 1.5 tbsp. Olive Oil

The sauce

  • 12 oz. pasta or Marinara Sauce
  • ¼ tsp. Basil
  • ¼ tsp. Oregano
  • ¼ tsp. Crushed Red Pepper
  • a small pinch Dried Mint
  • Salt & Pepper

Instructions

  1. Combine all meatball ingredients except olive oil in a large bowl and mix thoroughly.
  2. Roll the mixture into equal-sized balls, about 2-3 tablespoons each.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and brown the meatballs on all sides.
  4. Remove the meatballs and keep them warm on a plate covered with foil.
  5. In the same pan, reduce heat to medium and add the pasta sauce and herbs, stirring to combine.
  6. Return the meatballs to the sauce, spooning some sauce over them, and cover the pan.
  7. Cook for 10 minutes, flipping the meatballs halfway through.
