Ingredients

Pecan Streusel

  • 2 cups light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup pecans, chopped
  • 4 ounces salted butter, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

French Toast Casserole

  • 12 cups crusty bread, cut into large cubes
  • 8 large eggs
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 4 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • to taste maple syrup, warmed for serving

Instructions

  1. Combine all pecan streusel ingredients in a large bowl and mix until they resemble wet sand-like chunks. Refrigerate until needed.
  2. Butter a 9×13 baking dish.
  3. Add the bread cubes to the buttered baking dish.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, salt, and vanilla until well blended.
  5. Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, tossing to coat. It's okay if the bread looks a little wet.
  6. Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  8. Sprinkle the chilled pecan streusel over the bread mixture.
  9. Bake for 50-60 minutes until the top is golden brown and bubbly. Check at 40 minutes and cover with foil if too brown.
  10. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with maple syrup.
