Waldorf Salad

Ingredients

The salad

  • 2 whole tart apples (such as Granny Smith), cored and diced
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 to 3 ribs celery, diced
  • 1 cup grapes, halved
  • 1 cup toasted walnuts or pecans, roughly chopped

The dressing

  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream or half-and-half, cold
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • to taste salt

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine diced apples, sugar, and lemon juice; toss to coat.
  2. Add diced celery, halved grapes, and chopped nuts to the apple mixture.
  3. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form, then fold in the mayonnaise.
  4. Gently combine the whipped cream mixture with the apple mixture, seasoning with salt to taste.
  5. Chill the salad for at least 1 hour or overnight before serving.
