Ingredients

  • ¼ cup coconut aminos
  • ¼ cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 large Medjool dates, pitted and chopped
  • tablespoons tomato paste
  • ½ teaspoon Diamond Crystal kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon Red Boat fish sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine all the ingredients in a small saucepan.
  2. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  3. Decrease the heat to maintain a simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
  4. Taste for seasoning and adjust with extra vinegar or salt if needed.
  5. Blend until smooth using an immersion blender or regular blender.
  6. Serve with tonkatsu or other fried dishes.
