Instructions
- Combine bread flour, caster sugar, salt, active dry yeast, beaten egg, and milk in a large mixing bowl and knead until a dough forms.
- Add softened butter and knead for 10 to 15 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm area for 40 minutes until doubled in size.
- Prepare the chocolate cake by melting butter and chocolate together, then whisk in milk, egg yolks, and sifted cake flour until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, beat egg whites and sugar until stiff peaks form, then gently fold into the chocolate mixture.
- Pour the batter into a lined baking tin and bake for 20 minutes, then cool and trim the cake.
- Roll out the risen bread dough, place the chocolate cake on top, and roll it tightly into a log.
- Transfer the log to a greased loaf tin and let it rise for another 45 minutes.
- Preheat the oven and brush the loaf with beaten egg before baking for 25 minutes until golden brown.
