Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans with butter and parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Carefully add the boiling water to the dry ingredients and whisk until well combined. Allow to cool for 5 minutes.
- Blend in the vegetable oil and melted butter using an electric mixer on low speed.
- Add the eggs, egg yolks, and vanilla extract, mixing just until combined.
- Gradually add the flour, then mix in the milk and sour cream until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 29 to 34 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 5 minutes, then invert onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once cooled, frost the top of one cake layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides of the cake.
