Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare the cake pans.
- In a large bowl, mix the dry ingredients for the cake.
- Add the wet ingredients (except for the hot water) and beat for 2 minutes.
- Stir in the hot water until well combined.
- Divide the batter between the prepared cake pans and tap to remove air bubbles.
- Bake for 22 to 27 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool the cakes for 10 to 15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- For the frosting, beat together cream cheese and butter until smooth.
- Add vanilla, then mix in powdered sugar and cocoa until creamy.
- Frost the cooled cakes as desired.
