Ingredients

Cheddar Pie Crust

  • cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup freshly shredded cheddar cheese

Apple Pie Filling

  • 8 large apples, cored, peeled, and sliced
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground allspice
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • cup freshly shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pie crust by mixing flour, sugar, and salt, then cutting in the butter until pea-sized.
  2. Gradually add ice water until the dough forms clumps, then fold in the cheese.
  3. Divide the dough, flatten into discs, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  4. For the filling, mix apple slices with sugar, flour, and spices in a large bowl.
  5. Roll out one disc of dough and place it in a pie dish, then fill with the apple mixture.
  6. Roll out the second disc and place it over the filling, crimping the edges.
  7. Brush the top crust with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar if desired.
  8. Preheat the oven to 400°F (204°C) and chill the pie while the oven heats.
  9. Bake the pie for 25 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 375°F (190°C) and bake for an additional 30-35 minutes.
  10. Cool for at least 3 hours before serving to allow the filling to set.
