Ingredients

The pie crust

  • 1 single-crust pie dough

The filling

  • 1 ¾ cups pecan halves
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon bourbon
  • ½ teaspoon fine sea salt

For serving

  • to taste vanilla ice cream or whipped cream

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pie dough and roll it into a 14-inch circle, then place it in a 9-inch pie plate and trim the edges.
  2. Chill the pie crust in the refrigerator while preheating the oven to 375°F.
  3. Toast the pecans in the oven for 5 to 6 minutes until fragrant, then let them cool.
  4. In a bowl, whisk the eggs until pale, then add the maple syrup, melted butter, vanilla, optional bourbon, and salt, whisking until blended.
  5. Arrange the toasted pecans in the chilled pie crust and pour the egg mixture over them.
  6. Place the pie on the middle rack of the oven and bake for 40 to 50 minutes until the crust is golden and the filling has puffed.
  7. Allow the pie to cool for 1 hour before slicing and serving, optionally with ice cream or whipped cream.
