Ingredients

Crust

  • 1 recipe Homemade Pie Crust or All Butter Pie Crust
  • 1 large egg beaten with 1 Tablespoon milk or water (optional egg wash)

Filling

  • cups shelled pecans (pecan halves)
  • 5 Tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • ½ cup packed light or dark brown sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 3 large eggs at room temperature
  • 1 cup pure maple syrup
  • to taste none flaky sea salt for sprinkling
  • to taste none Homemade Whipped Cream for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pie crust or butter pie crust through step 5.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and roll out the chilled pie dough.
  3. Blind bake the pie crust for 15 minutes with weights.
  4. Spread pecans evenly inside the warm pie crust.
  5. Whisk melted butter, brown sugar, and flour together until combined.
  6. Add vanilla extract, salt, eggs, and maple syrup to the mixture and whisk until combined.
  7. Pour the filling over the pecans in the pie crust.
  8. Bake for 40-50 minutes, covering the edges if they brown too quickly.
  9. Sprinkle sea salt on top after removing from the oven and let cool completely.
  10. Slice and serve at room temperature, topping with whipped cream if desired.
