Ingredients

The doughnut mixture

  • 1 large egg
  • 60 g sugar
  • ½ tbsp vegetable oil
  • 120 g plain flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vegetable oil (for rolling the dough)

The frying oil

  • 30 ml vegetable oil (for deep frying)

Instructions

  1. Sift the flour and baking powder together and set aside.
  2. Whisk the egg in a mixing bowl and add the vegetable oil, combining well.
  3. Fold the sifted flour into the egg mixture gently to avoid overmixing.
  4. Grease your hands with a little oil and shape about 1 tablespoon of dough into balls, making 8 balls total.
  5. Heat the oil to 150°C (300°F) over medium heat.
  6. Deep fry the dough balls slowly until they are golden brown and crispy on the outside.
  7. Remove the doughnuts from the oil and drain on kitchen paper.
